CALEA Accreditation
The Kirkwood Police Department was first accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 2019, and in July 2023 the Department was awarded CALEA reaccreditation after successfully completing a four year review process. The CALEA Accreditation program provides law enforcement agencies with an opportunity to demonstrate compliance with an established set of professional standards on a voluntary basis, and includes an external, objective evaluation of the Agency’s operations. Remote and on-site assessments verify that the Agency continues to meet specifically defined professional standards to maintain Accreditation.
CALEA has created a public comment portal to receive comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. Comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns, and the process complements the overall intent of the accreditation process, which is to provide participating agencies with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence. The link is below:
IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.

The police will only have your address and will NOT request remote access to your camera. If you register your camera and there is a crime in your neighborhood, an officer might contact you about viewing your video. For more information, please contact the Det.
